Nike is fighting the bot allegations with a bold declaration about Bot Protection in its SNKRs app. The release of the Air Jordan 1 “Lost and Found” was much maligned with its difficult-to-enter draw leading to Nike taking steps to address claims that its sneakers are being botted.
After the incident with Joe Hebert, son of former Nike VP and current member of the Allbirds board of directors Ann Hebert, Nike is looking to clear up its reputation and detail how they use bot protection in its SNKRS app. In the Inside SNKRS segment, Nike goes into detail about bots and how SNKRS protects launches against bots and addresses whether or not Nike can detect and remove all bots. Nike states that it uses a “variety of tools” to identify bots, including account verification and IP reputation, to ensure that entries are authentic.
Nike also revealed that depending on the popularity of the sneaker bot, entries can make up anywhere from 10%-40% of total submissions, all of which get removed from the draw. It goes on to say that Nike removes nearly 20 million bot submissions globally every month. The statement even goes on to reveal that Nike has a team of engineers dedicated to stopping the bots built to manipulate the draw. Learn even more about bots and how to stop them HERE.
