Ja Morant to Debut the Nike Ja 1 Tonight

After the announcement of the dissolution of the Kyrie Irving and Nike partnership, Shams Charania also confirmed what we all knew to be coming, Memphis Grizzlies All-NBA point guard Ja Morant will be receiving a signature shoe. Though the news came at the same time, it should be noted that the sneaker was rumored as early as this Summer along with a few other notable names including Devin Booker, who recently extended his Nike deal. 

 Ja Morant is one of the most popular attractions in the NBA right now, accounting for one of the NBA’s most viewed Instagram videos of all time and in January came in 7th on the NBA’s jersey sales. Ja Morant is currently averaging 28.4 points, 6.3 rebounds, and 7.5 assists, following up a stellar season that garnered him the 2021-22 Most Improved Player award. 

Nike officially unveiled the Nike Ja 1 which features a mesh base with leather overlays. While full specs have yet to be revealed the sneaker features an Air Zoom Unit in the forefoot for explosiveness and a Swoosh that wraps around the heel to create a heel tab. The revealed version of the sneaker also includes a heel counter with 12 AM printed over it nodding to Ja’s mantra of “working in the dark.” Other details includes his new logo which features Ja’s name above a chevron both with edges to symbolize the sharpness of his game and his vertical ability. The chevron is a nod to his parent’s teaching that he is “beneath no one” a notion he hopes to pass on to the wearer. With Ja’s signature line he becomes the 23rd NBA player with a signature shoe and the first member of Gen-Z with a Nike basketball signature silhouette.  12 is set to debut the sneaker ahead of the Christmas Day game against the Golden State Warriors tonight.

The Nike Ja 1 is set to release in April.
