In an era when collaborations are released weekly, Concepts is still king when it comes to, well, sneaker concepts. The Boston sneaker staple is in rare air as one of the few stores that can produce hits across the board from brand to brand. And in the early 2010s, Concepts and New Balance were putting out straight-up grails. From their ode to JFK on the 2011 “Kennedy” 999 to 2013’s “C-Notes Only” MADE in USA 998, Concepts were putting sneakerheads onto NB way before the dad shoe trend. Like the Kennedy that got a retro in 2017, the C-Notes are following suit to celebrate the 10-year anniversary.
True to the 2013 pair, this 998 marries the hues of the then-new $100 dollar bill with the buttery materials synonymous with New Balance. Special details of this release include a co-branded embroidered tongue and sock liner, Concepts branding at the vamp, and custom packaging. The New Balance x Concepts 998 will launch globally on October 5th for $220 on NewBalance.com, cncpts.com, and Concepts locations in Boston and NYC.
