Golf fashion is having a moment that’s extending outside of the game itself – with brands like Metalwood, Malbon, and even Kith making huge splashes in the space and beyond.
On course, the vintage 90’s aesthetic is making a huge comeback; with dry fit polos and tapered joggers being replaced by cotton blends and looser pants. On the footwear front, there are few things as synonymous with the 90’s golf aesthetic as a crisp pair of classy white spikes – enter FootJoy x Todd Snyder. FootJoy has dominated the golf footwear landscape for decades, and with the recent resurgence of wingtips and more refined silhouettes, they’re reminding everyone why they’re the #1 shoe in golf ™.
FootJoy has collaborated with Todd Snyder in the past, and the reason the duo continues to see success is the seamlessness with which the two brands can coexist on the same products. With complimentary aesthetics and a mutual appreciation for the upscale – the partnership continues to resonate with fans from both sides.
This year’s collaborative selection comes in time for the PGA Championship’s return to Valhalla Golf Club in Louisville, Kentucky. The “Mint Julep” collection draws it’s inspiration from iconic Mint Julep cocktail served at the Kentucky Derby – and sees a twosome of FootJoy’s classic silhouettes dipped in minty blue.
The FootJoy Field features a mostly white full grain leather upper with a splash of colour by way of aqua-tone hits along the midsole. Splashes of navy patent leather on the heel counter and along the VersaTrax+ outsole add a touch of class, and subtle accents of blue camouflage make the shoe an unmistakable Todd Snyder piece.
The FootJoy Wilcox (my personal favorite) takes the traditional wingtip design and adds a dash of flare with white patent leather on the toebox and midsection of the shoe. While this pair features less color than the Filed model, the more intricate design and addition of white patent leather make them the stand out. This silhouette has been the weapon of choice for many golfers trying to add a hint of 90’s aesthetic to their wardrobe and it makes sense that FootJoy asked TS for their take on the timeless model.
By mixing the elegance of patent leather with the playfulness of camouflage and mint blue accents; Todd Snyder checks all the boxes by delivering elevated versions of these classic FootJoy models – all while maintaining fantastic shelf appeal (not that these will be on shelves very long). A strong collaboration means finding a way to let both partners shine through on one piece – and there’s no arguing that TS and FJ have done just that.
