Inspired by the kings of Psychedelic Rock, the ever-clever Nike SB is launching a trio of Grateful Dead Nike SB Dunk Lows this July 24th on Nike SNKRS US and select skateshops. The green colorway of the Dunk Lows releases July 24th at Nike SNKRS US and select skateshops while the yellow pair is a skateshop exclusive, with each store deciding on their own release strategy. The orange pair will be the most limited of the pack releasing earlier on July 18th and exclusively at FTC Skate whose flagship location is in the Grateful Dead’s hometown of sunny San Francisco.
Built off the “Grateful Dead Bear” motif created by the band’s audio engineer – nicknamed Bear – the shoe’s feature an illustration of the bear on the shoe’s tongue with a small Nike Swoosh pictured behind him. The plush mesh, SB tongues are done in their respective pairs’ matching colors and are equipped with a hidden zipper pocket inside. Shoelaces match the shaggy, faux-fur material which adorns the medial and lateral sides as well as the toe box while the Angeles features the band’s red, white, and blue lightning bolt motif. While the paneling replicates the bear mascots’ fur, the Dunk Lows’ Swooshes are reinterpreted to mimic the Bears’ signature chest collars which are done in contrasting colors. To emulate this look, the Swooshes have shark tooth inlays in black added around the perimeter of the shoe. Embroidered “Nike” logos appear on the heel in a typeface akin to a classic Grateful Dead poster rather than the brand’s usual typography.
