adidas, Donovan Mitchell Give Back with “Playground Hoops”

author
Luis Torres

adidas and Donovan Mitchell have opened a new chapter with the recently released adidas D.O.N. Issue #3. The silhouette and the “Playground Hoops” colorway, however, are more than a shoe and speaks on Mitchell’s and the Three Stripes’ commitment to community and the game.

The all-new silhouette and colorway draw on Mitchell’s upbringing in New York and his memories playing on outdoor courts while paying tribute to his grandmother and the community center where she worked. The release was celebrated at The Children’s Village in Dobbs Ferry, NY as part of a special ribbon cutting and dedication ceremony where Mitchell and his family refurbished the outdoor basketball courts and planted a garden in honor of his late grandmother, Blossom Wright.

The Children’s Village serves underserved children and families in New York through innovative community-based and residential programs that help them stay safe, stay together, and build for a better future. The renovated courts are designed to pay homage to Mitchell’s time in New York and to help the next generation of athletes thrive.

“Giving back to the community is one of my main focuses and the fact that I can do this to honor my grandma is really special,” Mitchell said. “The colorways of my shoes are a reflection of my story and what inspires me. For everything to come together the way it has makes this launch even more special.”

The Children’s Village court designs are a combination of Panamanian-inspired Mola artwork (Mitchell’s mother’s heritage) mixed with color palettes and designs from the Playground Hoops colorway. The Playground Hoops colorway is intended to pay homage to the courts that Mitchell hooped on growing up, with cross streets embedded into the Playground Hoops artwork and a custom D.O.N. Issue #3 shoebox.

adidas and Mitchell will continue to celebrate Spida’s youth through every colorway of the latest signature shoe. The adidas D.O.N. Issue #3 “Playground Hoops” is available now at adidas.com and select retailers.

Sole Savy is unreal! With a busy schedule it’s hard to keep up on shoes, and the group keeps me up to date on releases, tips on how to manually cop, and a marketplace with killer deals from fellow like minded collectors. It’s changed the sneaker game for me!

@SoleSavy is the truth. They've helped me cop kicks I never would've imagined getting at retail. Members always willing to assist on drops too. And most of all, a REAL community of REAL sneakerheads. These guys should be the gold standard for sneaker communities! #LifetimeMember

My membership paid for itself three fold by being solely responsible for my union 4’s, mesh sacai waffles, sacai blazers, court purple aj1s, glow in the dark yeezy 350s, travis scott lows (which I traded to get desert ore ow’s), air max 1 londons, bc3’s for way under retail etc.

Can't say enough about SS. The stellar help with copping shoes is a given but it's the community that makes it extra special. Hands down one of the best decisions I made as a wannabe sneakerhead.

The community of sneakerheads and resources available to help manually cop are great and really will help you get more Ws. The Zoom calls for hyped drops like Union Jordan 4 only adds to the camaraderie while providing real time instruction
