Tell us how you got into sneakers.
I got into sneakers young, however, I grew up in a household where my parents would not spend more than $50 on a pair of sneakers. So getting the sneakers I wanted was a challenge. My first pair of Jordans were the Air Jordan Countdown Pack 5/18. This pack happened to be on sale for $89.99 during back-to-school so I was able to talk my parents into them. For holidays, birthdays, etc, Jordan’s were always on my list.
How long have you been a member?
2 years.
What sneaker do you cherish the most in your collection?
The Sean Wotherspoon x Nike Air Max 97s are super special to me. I was living in Richmond, VA at the time of this release. I’ve been a fan of Sean and was a frequent shopper at Round Two. So from the time he was showing prototypes to the release, I knew it was a shoe I HAD to have. On the initial release I took an L and paying $700+ wasn’t something I could do. I ended up getting EA on SNKRS and I thought it was a dream.
What’s the best sneaker you’ve gotten through your SoleSavy membership?
That’s hard. I have copped A LOT of heat. If I had to choose, it’s the Joe FreshGoods x New Balance 993 “Pink.”
What’s your grail?
The Salehe Bembury x New Balance 2002R “Peace be the Journey.”
Is there a pair in your collection that always gets slept on?
I feel like the New Balance 9060 is a shoe that is always getting slept on. Any colorway really!
What’s one thing you’re passionate about outside of sneakers?
Continual growth. I think it’s important to never remain in the same position you are in. It’s important to take risks and get comfortable with being uncomfortable. I guess what I mean by this is I am a hungry individual. I always want more. I always work for myself. I am addicted to growing and learning from the different versions of myself.
How does your sneaker collection reflect your personality?
Sneakers are an art form in my opinion. It’s my way to get creative.
How do you decide which sneakers to add to your collection?
A lot of times it’s the uniqueness and the story behind the shoe. A lot of people have a tendency to not cop because everyone will have the shoe. But to me if it was meant for just you it would be a 1 of 1. The way you wear the shoe differentiates you from everyone else.
What sneakers do you have for sale on COLLECT right now?
I have a few pairs up for sale right now. Nike Air Foamposite One”Doernbecher,” Bad Bunny x adidas Campus “Cream,” and Kith x Converse Chuck Taylor High “10 Year Anniversary.”
What’s on your watch list on COLLECT?
I’d love to get a pair of the Bricks & Wood x New Balance 9060, Bad Bunny x adidas Forum Low “Black,” and of course my grails, the Salehe Bemburry x New Balance 2002r “Peace be the Journey.”
What sneaker brand are you most excited about right now? New Balance easily! They are doing some great things right now. I can’t wait to see who else joins their collaborations.
What’s one thing you would change about sneakers in its current state? We’ve come a long way. A lot of releases are becoming more and more obtainable. I would say if I had to change anything, it would be to make shoes like Travis Scotts and the Off-Whites of the world to be even more available to everyone.
