Dizygotic Project Alpha Celebrates Cheech and Chong

Dizygotic has changed the game with its Project Alpha series of sneakers. The brand name Dizygotic refers to fraternal twins and the ethos of the brand which is making mismatched sneakers that feel related but not the same. The initial release featured collaborations between Dizygotic and two Japanese artists Makoto Horimatsu and Mizyuro and drew inspiration from the Japanese folktale of Momotaro the Peach Boy.

Now, the brand is teaming up with two different kinds of folk heroes for their upcoming release. Dizygotic joined forces with Cheech Marin and Tommy Chong the legendary comedy duo and icons of stoner culture for a sneaker honoring the legends. On 4/20, the creators at Dizygotic had what stoners colloquially call a “highdea,” the group had the revelation to create and design a sneaker for the most iconic stoners of all-time Cheech and Chong. The gang burned the midnight oil and by 7/10, presented the pairs to the legends for their approval.

Inspired by the seminal 1978 film Up in Smoke, the Dizygotic Project Alpha “Cheech and Chong” are designed to emulate the pairs iconic outfits from the movie. The left shoe is inspired by Cheech Marin’s yellow tank top and red suspenders look with a yellow upper and red details on the eyelets, and the red corduroy heel counter pays homage to his legendary red beanie. The right shoe draws from Tommy Chong’s Canadian tuxedo with the denim construction on the toebox and tonal blue upper. A red paisley print on the heel of the right sneaker mimics Chong’s signature red headband.

Both sneakers feature a strip of 3M reflective piping running down the middle from the toebox to the tongue and on the heel pull tab with each shoe featuring each respective name on the strip. The sky-blue velvet sockliner of each shoe reflects the car dashboard. Even the insoles feature homages to the stoner duo’s hilarious exploits with images of the famous lowrider and big green van as well as their license plates.

Instead of the typical factory line, the sneakers are handcrafted in Nectar Lab and are chock full of premium materials including all-premium top-grain pigskin suede, a perforated toe box, memory foam lining, and  Vibram megagrip outsoles mismatched to coincide with their respective sneaker.

The DIZYGOTIC Project Alpha x Cheech & Chong: A Journey from 420 to 710 releases on November 17th at 4:20pm PST. The retail price is set at $267. To purchase, visit Dizygotic.com.

Sole Savy is unreal! With a busy schedule it’s hard to keep up on shoes, and the group keeps me up to date on releases, tips on how to manually cop, and a marketplace with killer deals from fellow like minded collectors. It’s changed the sneaker game for me!

@SoleSavy is the truth. They've helped me cop kicks I never would've imagined getting at retail. Members always willing to assist on drops too. And most of all, a REAL community of REAL sneakerheads. These guys should be the gold standard for sneaker communities! #LifetimeMember

My membership paid for itself three fold by being solely responsible for my union 4’s, mesh sacai waffles, sacai blazers, court purple aj1s, glow in the dark yeezy 350s, travis scott lows (which I traded to get desert ore ow’s), air max 1 londons, bc3’s for way under retail etc.

Can't say enough about SS. The stellar help with copping shoes is a given but it's the community that makes it extra special. Hands down one of the best decisions I made as a wannabe sneakerhead.

The community of sneakerheads and resources available to help manually cop are great and really will help you get more Ws. The Zoom calls for hyped drops like Union Jordan 4 only adds to the camaraderie while providing real time instruction
