In 1997, Michael Jordan gifted his game-worn “Flu Game” Air Jordan 12 to the Utah Jazz ball boy Preston Truman, and 15 years later, Truman sold the shoes to Grey Flannel Auctions for $104,765. Last night, Goldin Auctions sold the same shoes for $1.38 million, a 1,200% increase.
Another game-worn pair of Air Jordans holds the record for the price paid on a shoe – the Air Jordan 13 “Bred” worn by His Airness during the second half of Game 2 in the 1998 NBA Finals. That shoe was sold for $2.238 million by Sotheby’s. Before that, a pair of Air Ships worn by MJ during his rookie season held the record with a value of $1.472 million. The Air Ships were also sold by Sotheby’s in 2021.
Speaking of Grey Flannel Auctions, they recently auctioned a pair of Jordan-worn Converse All-Stars from the 1983 Pan American Games. That said, the All-Star pales when compared to the aforementioned Air Jordan 12 and 13, reeling in $37,668.
