They are poised to go three for three this week with their latest Air Max 1 release.
Beginning in 2022, NIKE’s .SWOOSH division was originally a Web3 platform designed to offer digital collectibles, virtual products, and interactive experiences. Though that space has rapidly changed, the presence and effort from Nike has remained.
Nike’s home for all things gaming cemented its place when it officially announced its partnership with Fortnite last year. A collaboration with one of the biggest games in the world allowed .SWOOSH more exposure, and it opened up the Nike Vault for the virtual world.

Since then, .SWOOSH has found itself dropping sneakers outside the world of the beloved FPS. The “Low Poly” was the world’s introduction to .SWOOSH’s efforts on the Air Max 1. The pair was a tribute to the Air Max 1 OG “Red”- one of the most important and beloved Air Maxes ever. In short, the pair that started it all was on the Air Max that started it all. The pre-order window allowed the brand more exposure, and an opportunity to satisfy as many customers as were interested in the sneaker.
.SWOOSH continued their run with the Air Max 1 with the release of the “Adventure” colorway. Subtly inspired by Lara Croft and Tomb Raider, the pair released via a puzzles that ultimately granted you access to purchase the sneakers after a three day adventure. This launch took releases to a new level- and displayed .SWOOSH’s creativity as well.
Now, .SWOOSH is gearing up for their next Air Max 1 sneaker- this time dubbing it the “Big Head Origins”. This pair, which was heavily teased during the roll out of the “Adventure” Air Max 1, draws inspirations from Donkey Kong and the rich-colorful nature of 90s video games. The vibrant midsole is met with hairy brown suede and a cream mesh base, and is tied together by the red poly swoosh. There could not be a better day than Air Max Day to release the most anticipated of the three Air Max 1 offerings from .SWOOSH.

The efforts behind .SWOOSH are a breath of fresh air. The celebration of video game culture, which has existed hand-in-hand with that of sneaker culture, is a story not often told in the between these worlds. The stories feel important, tasteful; and perhaps most importantly, tapped into the cultures it celebrates. The almost “if you know you know” nature of the inspiration behind the sneakers gives fans of the .SWOOSH Air Max projects a sense of pride- and a sense of connection.
Nike has built a legacy on great storytelling. The stories currently being told by .SWOOSH symbolically feel reminiscent of other eras of great storytelling within the Nike umbrella. Perhaps most closely to that of the countless amount of stories that made Nike SB so successful. The type of stories that connect a dedicated fan base to a strong sub-culture that is adjacent to sneakers in one way or another. They type of stories that connect Nike fans with their latest sneaker-whether that be through solving puzzles or creating skins for one of the biggest games in the world.
The dots, no pun intended, start to connect when you consider the driving forces behind .SWOOSH like Bryce Wong, .SWOOSH’s senior virtual creations designer, who got his start working with Nike SB. All in all, .SWOOSH has taken the playbook of what makes great sneaker stories, and applied to it their own spin and double-jump. They have taken that composition book and written out the cheat codes that no one else has gotten to work. In turn, their projects have quickly become some of the most beloved by sneakerheads in 2025.
