Kevin Durant’s Thirty Five Ventures (35V) is heading to the pitch with the help of one of women’s soccer prominent trailblazing clubs, NJ/NY Gotham FC.
Boardroom & 35V co-founders Durant and Rich Kleiman continue their support of women’s sports. 35V recently announced partnership deals with Just Women’s Sports and Athletes Unlimited. The 35V investment into Gotham FC includes content creation, social media support, player relations, and community outreach. The NJ/NY-based club is 35V’s second football investment as the company acquired an ownership stake in MLS’ Philadelphia Union in June 2020.
“As a New York-based company, the opportunity for us to partner with a forward-thinking team like Gotham FC was a no-brainer,” Rich Kleiman, 35V co-founder, said in a statement via Boardroom. “There’s been so much growth in the NWSL in recent years, and the chance to be a part of that growth and work directly with the Gotham FC executive team and players is really exciting.”
Gotham FC started in 2006 as Jersey Sky Blue and was an original member of the now-defunct Women’s Professional Soccer league. The club would then rebrand as Sky Blue FC in 2008 & won the league’s first championship in 2009. Eventually, the team would transition to the National Women’s Soccer League in 2012 as WPS folded. Sky Blue FC rebranded as NJ/NY Gotham FC in 2020 and now plays at Red Bull Arena in Harrison, New Jersey.
“This is another big step forward for our franchise,” Ed Nalbandian, Gotham FC’s managing owner, said. “Kevin and Rich are two of the most influential people in sports, and their work in the business and entertainment world and their significant investment in Gotham FC illustrates the potential of our club. They will be tremendous resources to the club across multiple areas, and we’re excited to welcome them to the Gotham FC family.”
