Nike Kobe 5 Protro ‘Lakers’, First Kobe Release Since Tragedy

The devasting news that was the death of Kobe and Gianna Bryant earlier this month cannot be overstated. Not only was his prowess in basketball something to admire, but his general attitude towards life at large continues to inspire people the world over. This was also reflective in his young daughter who was in the midst of her own journey towards the WNBA.

The first piece of Nike Mamba product since his passing will be an LA Lakers colorway of the Nike Kobe 5 Protro, slated for a March 26th release. The sneaker was recently debuted on-court by Anthony Davis during All-Star Weekend, in memory of his fellow Laker legend.

In the wake of his death, Nike originally pulled all Kobe related products from their stores and halted distribution of future models. Nike was one of many who refused to pursue financial gain in the wake of this tragedy, simultaneously combatting insidious Kobe resellers who tried otherwise.

This is surely the first of many releases from Nike in memoriam of Kobe and Gianna.
