SoleSavy COLLECTions – Cam Pettit

author
Dean Hilario

Cam is a 42-year-old father of two who grew up in Oshawa, Ontario. Outside of sneakers, he spends most of his free time golfing or playing guitar. Cam has a great collection and is always on the hunt for his next great sneaker trade.

How long have you been collecting sneakers?

In earnest, since May 2020

How many pairs do you currently have in your closet?

Around 65.

How long have you been a member?

2 years.

What is the oldest sneaker in your collection?

I think the one that’s stayed in my closet the longest is the Nike x Fear of God Raid “Bone”.

What’s the sneaker that got you hooked?

Air Jordan 1 “Royal Toe” – I wanted them badly, and a fluke cop for retail hooked me. That said, as a kid, I was fascinated by the OG Air Max 90, Air Jordan 4, and Reebok Pumps.

What’s your best steal or retail cop?

Probably Mocha Air Jordan 1s for retail; that started a run for retail Ws at Footlocker.

What’s “the one that got away” for you?

There was this girl in high school…oh, sneakers? Off-white 4, I’d had a trade lined up for JJJJound 992 Grey but the other person changed their mind (wasn’t a flake because there was no firm deal). Close second to AMM3 because of how I missed on drop day, and I ended up having to grab them later on.

What are five sneakers every person should have?

A pair you can dress up –  Air Jordan 1 Low Neutral Grey

A comfortable pair – adidas Boost or 4D

A pair that makes you run fast – Unfortunately, no shoe can do this for me

A go-to pair – Air Max 1

A great pair of golf shoes

What’s a sneaker in your collection that always gets looks/compliments when you wear them?

Air Jordan 1 “Origin Story” and no joke, I beat the piss out of my Air Max 1 “Windbreakers” – they both get compliments every time I put them on.

What’s the most you’ve done for a pair of shoes?

What did Bob Saget say about addiction? Ok, I haven’t gone that far. I haven’t actually done much, drove 45 minutes maybe?

Best sneaker trade?

The OG Travis Scott x Air Jordan 1 High is the best shoe I’ve ever traded for.

I also ended up trading my New Balance x JJJJound 990v3 “Olive” for the Air Jordan 1 “LA to Chicago” and enough cash to cover my retail cost plus dinner.

Trading for Union x Air Jordan 4 “Guava” and “Off Noir”, Civilist x Nike Dunk Low, and OG turtle doves are all also pretty good. I’ve been fortunate in that I’ve been able to make some good trades.

Do you have anything you’re looking to move on from?

I have a lot listed for trade on COLLECT. Lightly used Nike SB Dunk Low “Street Hawkers” are the ones I’m most looking forward to trading.

What pairs are you currently watching / what will be your next pick-up?

Watching a bunch of stuff on COLLECT, looking to get some grail-tier sneakers.

Lost and Founds, Lobster Dunks, and AMM4 are on my radar for upcoming releases

How do you think the sneaker game has changed since you started collecting?

Shoes are generally more accessible now than when I started 2.5 years ago. When COVID started, The Last Dance had just aired, and even getting a GR Jordan 1 was next to impossible. Now, we’re seeing some colorways sit for a bit and even go on sale in some cases. You can argue some of the colorways aren’t as appealing but I think 2 years ago, they all would’ve sold out fast regardless. Market prices have also come down enough to make it easier to stomach paying resale or making trades if you need to. Limited releases are still tough, which is a huge frustration.

What is your biggest frustration with sneakers as a whole right now?

The fact that New Balance 550s are so popular. Next question.

I mentioned how hard it is to get the more hyped shoes, which remains a big frustration, especially with increased rumors of backdooring, as retailers try to make up for lost revenue.

Another big one for me, maybe not a frustration by an annoyance is seeing people shifting gears from “I just want to be able to cop shoes, is that too much to ask” to “now that I can cop, they (the brands) are not releasing anything I want.” The focus is less on shoes and more on exclusivity or hype behind a certain pair. We’re all affected by the hype on some level, but the current situation has really shown who’s here for shoes and who’s here for hype.

Brand rapid-fire – What are your favorite Nike, adidas, Jordan, and New Balance models?

Nike – Air Max 1

Adidas – Ultra Boost

Jordan – 1…..maybe 4

New Balance – I prefer ASICS

Sole Savy is unreal! With a busy schedule it’s hard to keep up on shoes, and the group keeps me up to date on releases, tips on how to manually cop, and a marketplace with killer deals from fellow like minded collectors. It’s changed the sneaker game for me!

@SoleSavy is the truth. They've helped me cop kicks I never would've imagined getting at retail. Members always willing to assist on drops too. And most of all, a REAL community of REAL sneakerheads. These guys should be the gold standard for sneaker communities! #LifetimeMember

My membership paid for itself three fold by being solely responsible for my union 4’s, mesh sacai waffles, sacai blazers, court purple aj1s, glow in the dark yeezy 350s, travis scott lows (which I traded to get desert ore ow’s), air max 1 londons, bc3’s for way under retail etc.

Can't say enough about SS. The stellar help with copping shoes is a given but it's the community that makes it extra special. Hands down one of the best decisions I made as a wannabe sneakerhead.

The community of sneakerheads and resources available to help manually cop are great and really will help you get more Ws. The Zoom calls for hyped drops like Union Jordan 4 only adds to the camaraderie while providing real time instruction
