Meet Eric Ackom, a sneaker enthusiast and member of SoleSavy for almost 3 years. Eric’s interest in sneakers started at a young age, but it wasn’t until a few years ago that his passion for shoes truly took off. Eric is one of the most generous people in the community, and he’s got over 50 sneaker assists so far this year to back it up.
Tell us how you got into sneakers.
I have always been into sneakers since I was younger from the AND1s I used to get for school and some Pumas which I cannot remember the name of. But I got into shoes heavy in late 2020 when I saw the Nike SB Dunk Low “Strangelove” on someone’s feet. That sparked my interest big time so I started looking into sneakers more frequently and how to acquire them.
How long have you been a member?
I have been a member for almost 3 years now!
What sneaker do you cherish the most in your collection?
This may come as a surprise but it’s the Nike Blazer Mid “Popcorn.” I wear them almost every day to the gym. My Air Jordan 1 High “Clay Green” is also up there because that’s the first shoe I put in a hell of an effort to find a trade for.
What’s the best sneaker you’ve gotten through your SoleSavy membership?
I got the Travis Scott x Air Jordan 6 “British Khaki” from Z. Rubin for my birthday. Another one of the many examples of how great our community is.
What’s your grail?
In my collection it has to be my Nike SB Dunk Low “Strangelove,” outside my collection though it’s gotta be the Union x Air Jordan 4 “Guava.”

What’s one thing you’re passionate about outside of sneakers?
Medicine and teaching. I hope to one day be a doctor, and later be a mentor and teacher for kids that look like me.
How does your sneaker collection reflect your personality?
Some pairs are loud, some are colorful, some are versatile and some just have little details all over. All of these things just come together to represent me in some shape or form.
How do you decide which sneakers to add to your collection?
A lot of it has to do with my first impression. Do I actually like ‘em? Then I always consider how I would style them. And of course, they must be attention-grabbing in some way.

I’m always looking for stuff on COLLECT! Here are a few I’d love to get my hands on – Off-White x Nike Air Max 90 “Desert Ore,” Union x Air Jordan 4 “Guava,” and a bunch of Nike SB Dunk Lows – “Orange Lobster Special Box,” “Civilist,” “Green Apple,” and the atmos “Elephant” colorways.
What sneaker brand are you most excited about right now?
It has to be New Balance. They always release dope shoes and the one thing I love is the packaging for their collaborations. It makes it feel like every shoe has a special box.
What’s one thing you would change about sneakers in its current state?
I would change the power to shift back to the consumer. That way people don’t feel like they have to go for every shoe just because it’s hyped or has an arbitrary value on a secondary market.
