SoleSavy COLLECTions – Kyle Reid

author
Dean Hilario

Kyle is a 35-year-old husband and father of two. He is a Registered Nurse living in Roseville, California, just outside of Sacramento. Between chasing his kids around and working towards completing his Masters’s degree in Nursing leadership, you can usually catch him trying to squeeze in a workout, taking pictures of his shoes around the city, or cheering on the Green Bay Packers, Chelsea F.C., and the Toronto Maple Leafs.

How long have you been collecting sneakers?

I have been into sneakers since I was ten and remember asking for sneakers as gifts (K-Swiss, DADA, Reebok Questions). I then went through a Vans-only phase in my high school and college years followed by a minimalist craze (Vivobarefoot, Lems, Allbirds). I would say the last year plus I’ve been collecting with real purpose and the intent of orchestrating a well-rounded collection.

How many pairs do you currently have in your closet?

46

How long have you been a member?

I joined in April of this year, and I’m kicking myself for waiting so long.

What is the oldest sneaker in your collection?

The oldest pair in my collection is my adidas Stan Smith Horween Leather from 2015.

What’s the sneaker that got you hooked?

The one that got me hooked was the Nike Air Zoom Tuf Jet 97 “Brett Favre.” I grew up a Packers fan, and I got a pair of these for Christmas when I was 10 years old. I probably spent the next month walking on my heels, trying not to crease them. I would love to get another pair of those, so if anyone is holding any, let me know.

What’s your best steal or retail cop?

This summer I got a lightly worn pair of Union x Air Jordan 2 in “Rattan” on the COLLECT app for well under retail. This was a big W for me, after striking out on the initial release, that was the final straw that led me to join SoleSavy.

What’s “the one that got away” for you?

It was nothing super hyped, but recently a member posted a pair of Nike SB Dunk high Pass-Port Work boots on COLLECT under retail. I sat on it for a day and went back in the next day, and they were gone. I have been kicking myself ever since. I mean, what a great fall shoe! If anyone has any in a 10/10.5, get at me!

What are five sneakers every person should have?

  1. A pair of Stan Smiths. This is such a versatile shoe that can be easily dressed up.
  2. Something to chase the kids around in. New Balance 580’s are super comfortable and not crazy expensive.
  3. Jordan 3’s. I mean, after all, it is the shoe that saved Nike.
  4. Air Max 90’s. Something for daily wear.
  5. A pair of Crocs to throw on for a quick trip to the store or taking the kids to school.

What’s a sneaker in your collection that always gets looks or compliments when you wear them?

From non-sneaker people, it is my Nike Air Max 90 “Running Club.” People really enjoy the bright color palate of this shoe. From those that have an appreciation for sneakers, it would have to be my Nike SB Dunk High “KCDC.” I mean, who doesn’t love a pair of pink shoes?

What’s the most you’ve done for a pair of shoes?

Honestly, I have yet to do anything too crazy for a pair. Not saying I wouldn’t…… I see you AMM 4!

Best sneaker trade?

I just recently did a trade with DP (SoleSavy CEO) on COLLECT, I got a pair of SS4s, and in return, I sent him a pair of Nike Air Max Penny 1 Social Status Recess.

What pairs do you have for sale or trade on COLLECT right now?

I recently sold Salehe Bembury Crocs, Jordan 5 Low “Girls that Hoop” and New Balance x Ronnie Fieg 997.5. I’m pretty active on COLLECT, so I’m sure there will be more.

What pairs are you currently watching / what will be your next pick-up?

Besides those Pass-Port Dunks, I am really really excited about the AMM 4’s and the Eastside golf collection later this month. I will also be joining the masses in chasing the Lost and Founds.

How do you think the sneaker game has changed since you started collecting?

One of the biggest things that have changed over the last 25 years are the new faces and brands popping up in the space (Crocs, On, Hoka, Salomon, and of course, SoleSavy). There really is something for everyone right now.

Secondly, I really appreciate great storytelling from brands like The Whitaker Group and Maison Chateau Rouge. I will continue to support brands that put EXTRA work into their releases.

What is your biggest frustration with sneakers as a whole right now?

SNKRS.

Brand rapid-fire – What are your favorite Nike, adidas, Jordan, and New Balance models?

Nike – Air Max 1

Adidas – Stan Smith

Jordan – Air Jordan 3

New Balance – 990 v3

Sole Savy is unreal! With a busy schedule it’s hard to keep up on shoes, and the group keeps me up to date on releases, tips on how to manually cop, and a marketplace with killer deals from fellow like minded collectors. It’s changed the sneaker game for me!

@SoleSavy is the truth. They've helped me cop kicks I never would've imagined getting at retail. Members always willing to assist on drops too. And most of all, a REAL community of REAL sneakerheads. These guys should be the gold standard for sneaker communities! #LifetimeMember

My membership paid for itself three fold by being solely responsible for my union 4’s, mesh sacai waffles, sacai blazers, court purple aj1s, glow in the dark yeezy 350s, travis scott lows (which I traded to get desert ore ow’s), air max 1 londons, bc3’s for way under retail etc.

Can't say enough about SS. The stellar help with copping shoes is a given but it's the community that makes it extra special. Hands down one of the best decisions I made as a wannabe sneakerhead.

The community of sneakerheads and resources available to help manually cop are great and really will help you get more Ws. The Zoom calls for hyped drops like Union Jordan 4 only adds to the camaraderie while providing real time instruction
