How long have you been collecting sneakers?
I’ve been collecting since 2012.
How many pairs do you currently have in your closet?
When I joined SoleSavy, I had around 20-30 pairs. Currently, there are around 93 Pairs at home and 10-15 at my mom’s house, many of which have come from my time with the community through assists and retail Ws.
How long have you been a member?
Since February 2019.
What is the oldest sneaker in your collection?
Air Jordan 3 “True Blue” from 2009. As beaten as they are, they’ll always have a spot in my collection.
What’s the sneaker that got you hooked?
I have been collecting for a while now, but I would say the 2016 pair of Air Jordan 1 “Banned” really started the momentum. The Jordan 1 is my favorite silhouette of all time, so getting those was like touching a holy grail.
What’s your best steal or retail cop?
Easy – Union x Air Jordan 1 “Black Toe” for free, but that’s a story for another day… Gibbs what up!
What’s “the one that got away” for you?
Tough question, as there have been so many strong releases throughout the years. I would say the Tom Sachs x Nike Mars Yards.
What are five sneakers every person should have?
The key is versatility:
- Converse 70s Chuck Low
- Jordan 1 High in “Bred,” “Royal,” or “Shadow.”
- New Balance 990v3
- Nike Dunk Lows in any bright colorway.
- Suicoke Moto-Cab sandals.
What’s a sneaker in your collection that always gets looks/compliments when you wear them?
Any time I pull out a pair of the Sacai x Nike LDV Waffles, they definitely break some necks.
What’s the most you’ve done for a pair of shoes?
Crazy story actually, I won an online raffle from a store in New York for a pair of Union x Nike Dunk Low “Argon.” However, I was living in Ottawa at the time, and they had to be picked up, so I couldn’t make the journey. Thankfully, a SoleSavy member came through in the clutch and was able to pick the pair up for me!
Is there a pair in your collection that always gets slept on?
My most underrated pair would be the Converse Chuck 70 low. For such a basic shoe the versatility behind it is crazy.
What pairs do you have for sale or trade on COLLECT right now?
I have some Air Jordan 1s, such as the “Brotherhood” colorway, and Nike Dunk lows, like the “Laser Orange.” They’re some of my most worn models, but I don’t need as many as I have currently. Send me an offer, and I am sure we can work something out.
What pairs are you currently watching / what will be your next pick-up?
The only thing I have my eye on right now is a pair of Tom Sachs x Nike General Purpose Shoes. The seemingly boring shoe looks super wearable.
How do you think the sneaker game has changed since you started collecting?
The main difference I see now is the level of accessibility. Now there are so many mediums (online releases, in-store raffles, First Come, First Serve) to get Ws which is great. However, that comes with a huge influx of demand as well. It will never be perfect, but at least there’s a “chance.”
What is your biggest frustration with sneakers as a whole right now?
I would say that there’s no uniformity when it comes to sneaker releases from brand to brand. Some brands, such as A Ma Maniere do a great job of supplying the community, while others haven’t quite done the same.
