Supreme & Nike SB’s reunion on the Dunk Low is finally here.
The long- flirtatious process has tested the patience of plenty of Supreme fans. The sneaker, which first leaked about a year ago, trickled repeatedly. As colorways continued to surface, it became clear that Supreme and Nike SB’s reunion would be an ambitious project.
Once the pieces all came together, it was clear. Supreme wanted to celebrate their 30th anniversary in style. Five colorways, and two unfortunate delays later, we finally have the official announcement for Supreme’s latest collaboration with Nike SB.
Their history is revered- as Supreme has a long, beloved, history of working with Nike SB. This latest collaboration project, despite being more toned down than previous efforts, hit the nail on the head.
The dunks that make part of this collaboration feature the expected tooling of a Nike SB Dunk Low. A rubber outsole, Zoom Air unit, padded mesh tongue, have brought the model to the party. But it is Supreme’s signature touch that’s had fans anxiously waiting for this project to release.
Two colorways are expected to be released globally, in White leather and a second pair in Black nubuck. The White pair features 3M reflective material on the swoosh. Meanwhile, the Black pair pops in it’s own way- with hits of the iconic Supreme Red on the sock liner. Every pair from the collaboration will also feature a debossed Supreme logo on the midsole, as well as a metallic embroidered “94” graphic on the heel- a nod to the birth year of the iconic brand.
Where the collaboration gets more gamified, though, is through the exclusive regional colorways. More clearly, the initial more colorful colorways that leaked are expected to release exclusively throughout various regions of the world. North America will exclusively receive the Blue colorway. Europe and the UK will exclusively release the Purple colorway. Finally, Asia will exclusively drop the Green colorway.
These regional pairs, made of suede uppers, serve Supreme’s most popular audience basis globally. All the while, bringing back the hunt for that elusive colorway. At a time where the sneaker industry scrambles for ideas- Supreme chooses good ol’ reliable scarcity to further create hype for these highly anticipated sneakers.
This nostalgic feeling of the chase will surely annoy complacent sneaker heads. That said, there is no better way to commemorate, albeit late, a massive milestone like the thrill of the chase. After all, the thrill of the chase is what helped shape Supreme into what it is today.
The Supreme and Nike SB Dunk Low collection will launch tomorrow, September 4th, via Supreme in North America. The Asia exclusive will launch on September 6th.
